Abstract

The article describes the military operations conducted by the Austro-Hungarian and German armies in the village of Scorţaru Nou, located on the front line and at the confluence of the rivers Buzău and Siret, and the occupation regime of the village and of the surrounding area during the period of December 23rd 1916 - November 10th 1918. For this purpose we mainly used information from the archives of the National Archives Service of Brăila County: daily reports of military operations of the administration of the occupation regime, aspects of the daily life of the inhabitants of Scorţaru Nou village, tombstones commemorating foreign and Romanian soldiers who fought in that period, constructions of war erected by the occupation army in the village area (trenches, railway line).
