Abstract

The paper is a short, but well documented biography of Iacob Antonovici, an important prelate of the Romanian Orthodox Church in early 20th century. The author insists on Antonovici’s formative years as a priest, but also as a man of letters, teacher and devoted historian. His ecclesiastic and cultural activity in Bârlad and Huşi made his a respected member of the religious hierarchy, so he was elected archbishop of the “Dunărea de Jos” see and then moved to the bishopric of Huşi. His historical and cultural activity secured his nomination as an honorary fellow of the Romanian Academy, as well as of several other scientific associations.
