Abstract

No matter which exegetical angle is used in order to approach his complex personality, concomitantly as a historian, a philosopher or a moralist, Dimitrie Cantemir reveals himself, through his monumental work, as a spirit intensely preoccupied by the problem of the truth. As a philosopher, the historian defines himself as a researcher of the truth. The eyes, the soul and the life of history: it is in this way that Dimitrie Cantemir defined the truth, appealing to a meaningful metaphor which reveals his endeavor to ensure the full conformity of his work with the reality of facts.
