Abstract

The elections of November, 1946 were won by the Communist Party due to the falsification of the results; this is how the communists became “representatives of the people” and, thus, in the following years, they were able to suppress all forms of resistance. The author aims at presenting how the citizens of Covurlui County reacted during the electoral year 1946. He also intents to emphasise the means and the methods used by a totalitarian party in the struggle for gaining the monopoly of the political power. The presentation of an episode of local history has an important
contribution to clearly reconstructing the complex situation from the years 1944-1947, a decisive period for the further evolution of Romania.
