Abstract

The aim of this article is to present the life and the activity of Nicolae Dobrescu, professor at the Faculty of Theology of Bucharest between 1904 and 1916. He studied at the Central Seminar and at the Faculty of Theology from Bucharest and his Ph.D. thesis was on the organization of the Romanian Orthodox Church. He had access to many documents concerning the religious history of the Romanians during his research studies in  Vienna and Budapest. Due to the value of his studies, Nicolae Dobrescu became the first professor of the history of the Romanian Orthodox Church at the Faculty of Theology from Bucharest. He had a remarkable contribution to the development of this discipline and he was involved in the important debates regarding the organization of the church.
