Abstract

The effective investigation of offences involving the unlawful procurement of human organs or tissues is closely tied to the integration of advanced scientific and technical methods into criminal
investigation and forensic practice. Enhancing the use of specialised—particularly medical—expertise requires improved awareness among investigators of recent developments in forensic medicine, the capabilities of relevant institutions and specialists, and the characteristics and preservation of forensic evidence. Ultimately, only coordinated collaboration between investigators and forensic experts can ensure the rigorous detection and investigation of homicides committed for the purpose of organ or tissue harvesting.
