Abstract

The paper deals with specific aspects of the religious spirituality in occidental post-modernity. The meaning of religion in the modern and post-modern world is reached through G. Vattimo`s central ideas and theses about secularity - i.e., a ”weak” philosophical thinking which reveals modified characteristics of Christianity in several features of modern secularized society. Far from being exhausted by the so-called death of God, both Christianity and secularism will evolve somehow dialectically, in binary couples, with new forms of religiosity and secularized criticism, with openings towards a creative unpredictable future. Vattimo will amplify such ideational openings, correlated with ”kenosis” of Christian divinity (the self-empting of God through incarnation). In the ecumenism problem - according to Vattimo - the hermeneutic theme of philosophical truth is decisively correlated with the Occident post-secular (not antireligious) destiny.
