Abstract

The literary work of the most famous Israeli writer, Amos Oz, represents an extraordinary inosculation between the fates of the main heroes and the fate of the Israeli society, marked by profound splitting. In his most widely read novels, A Tale of Love and Darkness and My Michael he painted, in vivid or dark colors, an ever-changing world. The first novel mentioned represents a true saga of the Jews who chose Aliah (The Return), leaving an Europe destroyed by war and carrying in their heart the terrible pain of the drama of their own people, the Holocaust. Amos Oz masterfully introduces us to this world marked by many conflicts: the one between expectations and the harsh reality of the Middle East, the one between the left-wing and the right-wing Zionists, between Jews and British proctor power, between Jews and Arabs. The uplifting and dramatic moments are equaly described in the pages of the novel: the transition from humility to victory, the sharing of Palestine, the War of Independence and the proclamation of the State of Israel. In ”My Michael”, the story of the main heroine, Hannah, also overlaps with the story of the becoming of the Jewish state.
