Abstract

The modernity and the modernization of the Romanian literary universe were directly influenced
by the western romanticism of the XIXth century. The national spirit of esthetics revealed itself as an
inexperienced spirit – without any stable literary doctrine. What led to those new and unexpected reactions
was the lack of any artistic manifestation or of any literary tradition which would have ensured some certain
continuity. Discovering the variety and the multitude of the western literary patterns (the French romanticism, for example), the writers of the 1848 generation have proved themselves open to the cultural and esthetical
innovation, only the most skeptical ones having some, otherwise explicable, hesitations. Thus, by this article,
we propose an analysis of the dynamics and the diversity of the literary types of that époque which have
contributed to the establishment of national spirit of esthetics
