DIMITRIE CANTEMIR AND THE ENRICHMENT OF THE ROMANIAN LITERARY LEXICON
Abstract
The study of the Romanian texts written by Dimitrie Cantemir (Divanul, Hieroglyphic History and Chronicle of the Ancient Romano-Moldo-Vlachs) highlights the presence of a large number of neologisms of Latin origin and, at the same time, numerous lexical elements specific to the languages. The use of these
lexical elements and, especially, the role assigned to them, prove that the great scholar deliberately enrich the literary Romanian language and refine the writing style according to the model of the European cultural languages.
