ENGLISH WORDS AS DISCURSIVE MARKERS OF THE TERMS BELONGING TO THE FRENCH ECONOMIC FIELD –
A TRANSLATION APPROACH
Abstract
Our article is a reflection on one of the essential functions of specialized language - the transmission of specialized knowledge - and on the translational strategies to be adopted in order to render a target text as precise and coherent from the point of view of the interpretation of specialized concepts, but also perfectly adapted to the target audience, taking into account the particularities of the text to be translated (source text). To do this, we adopt the communicative perspective of terminology - T. Cabré's "Theory of Doors" and, from a translational point of view, Hans Vermeer and Katharina Reiss's Skopostheorie (Theory of the Skopos), considering that both the specialized discourse and the act of translation have pragmatic constitutive characteristics. We will base our reflections on examples of
texts translated from English into French in the field of economics, texts in which the translational choice of a direct translation was deliberately made for reasons of discursive pragmatics, considering the type of source text and the category of audience to which the text is addressed.
