Abstract

The period of Augustus marked for ancient Rome the most extraordinary
development in all aspects, but especially in terms of its capacity as a leading actor
in the world of politics. Ruling territories on three continents, Augustus’ Rome was
a superpower of antiquity, the one who dictated the course of events for a good part
of the known world at that time. The main force, which turned a Rome torn apart by
civil war into a guarantor of world peace and security, was the Roman army. The
militaries of Augustus’ Rome were the ones whhich also represented the executive
of this world empire, but who did not renounce their military status. Our study
details the vocabulary of the main institutions, managed by the military, we called
them militarized, (some of which, even today, have been preserved as form and
sometimes as background within Romanic countries), those that led to the success
of Augustan policy.
