Meanings of the Noun Harfă in the Lyrics of Traian Dorz

Semnificaţii ale substantivului harfă în lirica lui Traian Dorz

Abstract

Our paper’s objective is to take into consideration some of the possible
meanings of the noun harfă, element of paramount importance in Traian Dorz’s
poetry. Traian Dorz is a contemporary Romanian poet, unfortunately less studies,
author of thousands of poems expressing mystical insight and of several volumes
of memoirs and religious meditations. We will have in view the fact that lexemes
like the one mentioned have mostly figurative meanings (the harp is the carrier of
the divine message, the source of inspiration for the act of creation etc.), illustrated
also through other words from the same semantic area or through other basic
concepts in the poet’s work (for example, c‚ntec (song) / c‚ntare (singing), imn
(anthem), psalm, coardă (coard), strună etc.). Thus, in the whole opera there are
created lexical-semantic fields, accompanied by stylistic effects that are to be found
in works with a programmatic character which underline, at the same time, the idea that music and poetry remain, more than the other arts, in an unbreakable
union; yet, not only in the number of contexts in which these terms appear lies the
creating capacity of the poet, but also in the position the author assures them, in
comparison with other elements, in surprising lexical combinations. Beyond the
simple use of the word with a certain meaning, the symbolism of the noun harfă in
Traian Dorz’s poetry highlights aspects referring to his artistic belief, his
conception of life and Divinity, to the unique relationship between man and God –
idea on which actually lies the entire lyrical message of the Romanian poet.
