Statistical Notes on Shifting from Tradition to Innovation in Legal Language in the 18th Century
Observații statistice referitoare la momentul trecerii de la tradiție la inovație Ón limbajul juridic din secolul al XVIII-lea
Abstract
Our paper is based on a general analysis of the frequency of terms used
in the legal-administrative vocabulary of the late 17th and 18th centuries. The
study focuses on etymological structure and the relationship between the radical
and its derivatives. The relationship between terms derived from the vulgar
language and neological borrowings shows that the Romance element (inherited
Latin and Latin-Romance) forms the highest percentage in all categories of texts,
showing a certain constancy across the different eras, found mainly in the legal administrative terminology of the 1780-1850 period.
