THE WORD: A SYMBOL OF THE ROMANIAN CULTURAL IDENTITY. A CASE STUDY: ”PERNA DE PUF”, BY V. VOICULESCU

Abstract

The challenges of the contemporary society are reflected, implicitly, also
at the linguistic level, thus Word becoming a symbol of the Romanian cultural
phenomenon, regardless of the field in which the contemporary man carries out his
activity, resonating, either with his soul experience or with his culture. There has
always been a dynamic of the linguistic phenomenon that goes through an
extensive process of change, renewal, adaptation to the new, but also the
assimilation of innovative trends through the means of enriching vocabulary. In
our paper, we chose an illustrative text, such as Perna de puf, by Vasile Voiculescu
in order to highlight the dynamics and functioning of the linguistic element in
order to transmit and decrypt the message. The aim of the paper is not to explain
the author̓ s preference for a certain stylistic register, but to reveal the stylistic
meanings and connotations that derive from the interference of new and old
norms, of the archaic language with the regional and even neological one. The
author̓ s predilection for this variety of linguistic material makes the expression
spontaneous and the mystery of the presented world to descend in antiquity,
slipping through the dream beyond the real dimension. We shall analyze to what
extent, the vocabulary, by means of its artistic function, may create the atmosphere
in the selected text.
