Abstract

As a result of particular visions through which an artistic subjectivity can
be expressed, Ion Druță's prose possesses a lot of characteristics specific to the
lyrical genre. Both the author and the characters involved in the epic thread of his
narrative, feel the need to express themselves (to communicate, in Tudor Vianu's
terminology); or, self-expression / self-communication is a characteristic of the
lyrical self and, respectively, of the lyrical poetry. Thus, in the prose of Ion Druță,
the feelings and ideas of the characters will always be communicated from the
perspective of a deliberately poetic point of view, meant to reveal not so much
recordings of deeds and actions committed, but feelings of a troubled soul.
Expressing the monologues of the human soul, Ion Druță's lyrical prose uses the
poetic not as an external ornament, as a stylistic ornament, but as an ingredient. In
his novels, poetry is not added to the epical text, in the form of lyrical passages, but
is organically incorporated into the substance of the text, which is completely
poetic. The undeniable merit of Ion Druță was that he knew how to introduce and
impose lyricism in an absolutely anti-lyrical era, refractory to poeticism of any
kind.
