GLI ITALIANISMI LESSICALI NELLA PROSA DI NICOLAE FILIMON:
LINGUAGGIO ARTISTICO-MUSICALE E SPERIMENTALISMO STILISTICO
Abstract
During the XIX-th century, in Romania, it takes place a huge language modernization process: between 1830 and 1860, the necessity of creating a modern language for arts, literature and music increases lexical borrowing phenomena. At the same time, Romanian intellectuals develop different linguistic modernization models. One of the most important modernization model is the ―italianist‖ current: the most important exponent of this current is the ―father‖ of modern Romanian literature, Ion Heliade Rădulescu. According to this perspective, the Italian language is the main source to increase Romanian vocabulary. In our study, we will investigate the effects of the italianist current ideology on Nicolae Filimon literary production. Filimon writes the first relevant Romanian novel
(Ciocoii vechi şi noi) and, at the same time, is the first Romanian musicologist, who had a strong influence in creating the modern Romanian language for the music. As a consequence, our attention will focus on two aspects: 1) the use of Italian musical neologisms; 2) the use of Italian neologism as a lexical strategy in order to create a high literary style in his works. Finally, we will offer a general overview about Filimon linguistic ideology and about the role of the Italian language in the creation of his style.
