Abstract

The European Parliament is a particular environment of communication for Europe's
emerging parties. The debates in the Parliament allowed political speakers of these parties to find out a communication space to build and present an image of Europe. In this research, we focused on the case of the Front National in France, Podemos in Spain and UKIP in the United Kingdom and the speeches of the leaders of each party in the largest institution at the European level. We are interested in the location and analysis of different discursive strategies employed by political speakers in order to show through a rather negative image of Europe in the current crisis context. Thus, we spotted images that refer to the origins of the Union as an entity that looked for peace in the continent and how this Union diverted from this image. We also found that Europe is seen as an institution dedicated to failure because of its weakness to control borders, but also because of the application of a multiculturalism that does not respect the differences or the identities of each country.
