THE “BIOGRAPHY” OF THE ROMANIAN EXPRESSIONS BY STELIAN DUMISTRĂCEL

Abstract

An outstanding linguist, dedicated to the study of the Romanian language,
which he promoted through his thoroughly documented reserach, Professor Stelian
Dumistrăcel left many studies dealing with the use of words both in everyday
language and in idiomatic expressions. Out of all these volumes, we stopped on the
linguistic “biography” that the author designed in the form of a Dictionary of
Romanian Expressions. Biography-motivations. We considered a fine selection of terms,
which were analysed both in terms of new meanings and in an attempt to identify
suitable equivalents in French.
