ANGLICISMELE, MODĂ SAU TENDINȚĂ LINGVISTICĂ?
ENGLISH BORROWINGS – A LINGUISTIC FASHION OR A LANGUAGE TREND?
Abstract
During decades, each epoch has different quantitative contribution to the
process of improving „the pool” of neologisms from the Romanian language by
means of borrowing words of different origin: Slavic, Greek, Turkish, French or
Hungarian. The post-communist period reveals a great number of English words in
the Romanian vocabulary (spoken and written). In this process, media plays an
important role by using these words in journals as well as on radio and television.
A significant number of words of English origin is present almost everywhere: arts,
IT and sport. Nevertheless, it is important to keep the right measure in doing so.
