Abstract

Speaking about some Cioranian tasks, it is better to underline from the beginning, the fact that it is a distance between the Romanian essayist and the existentialist vision of the concepts that we discuss in this paper (the emptiness and the angst). Accepting the existentialist perspective, which claims as a root of the angst either the conscience of the original sin (cf. Kierkegaard), or the permanent aspect of the possibility of death (cf. Heidegger), or the absurdity of existence and the emptiness of the pure liberty (cf. Sartre), Emil Cioran understands all these situations not as being determinative for the angst, but only as moods that have their contribution on the producing the angst. For Cioran, the process of living the sentiment of angst is determinate, in a primordial way, of the human contact with the universal dissolution. The last one is impose by the temporal flux or the negative progression of life, of the live in general. It must be say that not every human being has the power to become aware about this negative meaning of existence which is dominated by temporality, but only the lucid spirits, in other words, the spirits which have the possibility to liberate themselves of the mood of being plunge in time, which can realize the leap behind of time for understanding the emptiness of Being and for revealing the emptiness. Only these kind people know the tragic sentiment of the angst.
