In Dumitru Radu Popa’s short story, the totalitarian parable specifically
juxtaposes fiction, metafiction and the semantic palimpsest. In his narrative, Un aparat
de pe timpuri / An Old-fashioned Device, the writer inserts the inter - / meta-text
within the biographic level so as to redefine his own literary and political ideology.
