L ’imaginaire de l’absurde dans Amédée ou Comment s’en débarrasser
Abstract
Based on a nightmare scenario rooted in the Super-realistic and “cruelty” theatre, Amédée ou
Comment s’en débarrasser points out a grotesque farce of the existential failure within the absurd world. Coping
with the status of man’s disintegration as the effect of the “blind” mechanism overwhelming and ever effecting
him, even at a linguistic level (language disintegration as result of the existential vacuum), Ionesco’s play is
representative for the “new drama” which, as Martin Esslin notices, “gives up the absurd human condition
theme”, but still “points out its presence.” The play can be equally read as a symbolical parable about guilt,
anguish, solitude, and a solution of redemption through assuming the revolt against the absurd.
