THE USE OF THE ROMANIAN PHRASEOLOGY IN NICOLAE STEINHARDT’S BOOK “GIVING IS RECEIVING”
Abstract
The religious Romanian vocabulary registered a unique dynamics in the
contemporary era without giving up on the specific characteristics of this way of
communicating. The novelty, in this sense, is given by the stylistic variation of the
expression relative to the act of combining archaic elements with neologisms,
selecting some phrases from the colloquial or popular language that are highly
suggestive, specific to the Romanian mentality. The research also explores the
particular style of Nicolae Steinhardt’s literary work, aiming at achieving an
equilibrium between new and traditional, accessible and faithful to the sacrament.
The phraseological units used in Nicolae Steinhardt’s book “Giving Is Receiving”
succeed in innovating this style, offering, on the one hand, a “vividness” of his
writing and, on the other hand, a solemnity of the theological explanations and
spirituals answers.
