Abstract

Humans have tried since ancient times to rival divinity in creation. Like God, the initiates used one of the primordial elements of life, the Earth, in order to create humanoid-looking beings. Their attempt to reach the Creator's perfection was doomed to failure, as the entity, called the Golem, could not speak, it possessed a rudimentary intellect, and had no soul. The Golem was used for household chores, but its creator had to be careful that it did not grow uncontrollably, as it could turn against the one who gave it life. There are many examples which prove that the Golem has become an enemy of the community or its own creator, which is a serious topic for reflection in relation to modern science's attempts to create artificial intelligence, without considering the possible negative side effects. The myth of the Golem has been exploited  in literature and art, in remarkable literary and artistic works, a sign of the fact that man never ceases to dream of equalling God, in terms of the power of creation, but that his achievements are pale imitations of the Heavenly Master.
