AROMÂNII – ÎN CĂUTAREA IDENTITĂȚII
THE AROMANIANS – IN SEARCH OF THEIR IDENTITY
Abstract
The Aromanians have a fascinating and interesting history, being
representatives of the Romanized Easterners to the South of the Danube, the only
ethnicity that failed to create its own state. They went through history being
everywhere and nowhere, enriching the cultural treasury of Greece, Serbia,
Albania, Northern Macedonia and Bulgaria. Considered, for a long time, by
Bucharest, part of the Romanian people, while Athens were asserting that they are
Latinized Greeks, the Aromanians begin to assert their identity and obtain the
status of national minority in the Balkan states. Some Aromanians from Romania
claim the same statute, a fact that raised controversy, because it could mark the
failure of Bucharest's 150-year policy in the Balkans.
