Abstract

I describe and discuss for the first time an inedited manuscript of Romanian philosopher Neculai Bagdasar, the most important translator of Kant’s works into Romanian and for decades chief editor of Revista de filosofie, the main philosophical review in Romania. The manuscript, brought to our department by a nephew of the philosopher, comprises eight professional as well as personal portraits of leading philosophical personalities of the period between the two World Wars in Romania. Bagdasar’s judgments are very severe in many cases, like that of Legionnaire-inspirer Nae Ionescu, but they throw a new and interesting light on the development of Romanian philosophy and philosophical learning, most welcome since it is one from inside.
